School of Rock!!!
While getting rehearsals started (hint, hint: that means it’s getting closer to showtime), I took an afternoon off and donated my time to a New York City public school. They had an auction to raise money and, although I was told that some mothers wanted to bid for themselves, I did get a chance to teach two beautiful and inspiring sisters (ages 8 and 11) the craft of songwriting and we laid the track down for all of you to hear.
Enjoy, because this is what it’s all about at the end of the day.

This is just so cool! You’re already inspiring the next generation of singer-songwriters. It’s a good song too!

That’s really cool Ryan. That’s a great song. Those girls will have that for the rest of their lives.

You continue to give me something to smile about. My 4 1/2 daughter Ashley listened to the song with me, and as I’m typing right now, she’s asking to hear it again so she can learn it. She’s learning to sing as I write songs and teach her. My 11 month old daughter is singing already, she likes to sing along with you, have videos to prove it ( sending you a Myspace message about that) Can’t tell I’m a proud Mom, can you;-)
Proud of you too…

That was so great of you to do. You are a beautiful soul.

That made me smile. A huge Thank You (to you and the two lovely sisters) for sharing.
“…When they sing, sing along.”

That song brought tears to my eyes. The purity of those emotions, those last few years before the really deep wounds occured, but even now, the emotions beneath the scars are the same - I still want the same things. Thank you Ryan and please share with those girls the way in which they can affect others through creative expression.
I am still saving my Jet Blue miles for you - can’t wait to see you again!

It so great to hear when adults can take the time to spend it with young kids and be such a positive influence on them. You have put such a smile on my face just listening to there song. My four year old came running into the room and immediately started singing along to, so your inspiration doesn’t stop at just these two young girls it filters out to so many more.

There really isn’t anybody else in the world like you. Thank you.
Get on with this album and touring thing already! *dying*

That song was so very sweet, my 10 month old daughter was clapping and bouncing to the music and started pouting when it was over, good thing the dog came into the room to distract her or there may have been a tantrum.

You continue to amaze everyone, especially with little things like this that can make a world of differences.
I’m sure when those girls are older, they’ll make a difference in someone’s life just as you did theirs.

Wow - well .. you made this mom cry. Yeah - I’m an emotional wreck these days - but this really is what life is all about - isn’t it? The kids.
Great job girls - the song is fantastic!

Awwwwww!
What an awesome thing to be a part of as a 8 or 10 year old! Those girls will never forget it and I bet it will stay with you too.
Thanks for sharing it!

I bet you learned as much from them as they did from you…kids do that to ‘ya. Learned that years ago as a pediatric nurse, and now reinforced daily as a mom. The melody is so sweet and when they harmonize, I got a little choked up. Express Yourself could be the child’s counterpart to So Ordinary. We’d all be alot happier if we could just be who we are, not what we think we should be. Nice song, nice message. Thanks for sharing, Ryan!

Cool experience for all. I’m jealous, when does the next semester start? :).

So pure and yet so deep. You lead a great example for all of us. To teach is to inspire- to inspire is to create- to create is divine- proving there is a little of God and Mother Earth in all of us. Have a great summer Ryan- please don’t ever change- it’s things like this that set you aside from the pack.

Aww…I loved it!!! So adorable
What a great opportunity for those girls, I love the idea of auctioning off your time to raise money for an NYC public school. Good on ya, Ryan. If you ever decided to run an auction that fans could participate in…I bet tons of money would be raised!
